The Princess and the Frog
Walt Disney’s 2D-animated adventure “The Princess and the Frog” took the North American box office by storm this weekend with a solid $25 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday. It is an American animated family film loosely based on E.D. Baker's novel The Frog Princess, which was in turn inspired by the Grimm brothers' fairy tale "The Frog Prince".
The film was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, directors of The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Treasure Planet, with songs and score composed by Randy Newman and featuring the voices of Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana), Oprah Winfrey, Keith David, Jim Cummings, John Goodman, Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Peter Bartlett and Terrence Howard.
With the good cast,The Princess and the Frog's s total gross currently stands at $27.8 million. Disney’s anticipated return to hand-drawn animation expanded to 3,434 locations Friday, earning a weekend average of $7,280 per theater. Sandra Bullock’s surprise hit “The Blind Side” slipped to No. 2, taking home another $15.4 million.
